The ‘We Are Here’ events at Oastler Market run over two Saturday afternoons – 21st and 28th April, both from 12pm until 4pm. You can join the event on Facebook to see who else is going.

Here’s what’s on offer:

21st April, 12-4pm

  • ‘Say it Loud- We Are Here’ Poetry & Prose by Kirsty Taylor & friends
  • Poetry from Kirsty Taylor
  • Trading Words with Kirsty Taylor: Participate in a poetry workshop in Woodies Cafe, heart of the market. We will take a trip around the stalls and allow the wonderful sights and smells to inspire our pens, creating stories and poems to share aloud with each other. Bring a pen and writing book! Limited spaces, email wurbradford@gmail.com to reserve one.
  • Live acoustic music
  • DJs with a playlist from Bradford Market Traders
  • Brick Box bar – taste or take-away Bradford beers from the best little bar in town
  • Buy local and exotic meats, spices, veg and fruit
  • Eat!
  • English butties, falafel, noodle bar or authentic Polish cuisine, come hungry as you will leave full
  • Come see Wur Bradford’s art exhibition created by our Wur Bradford team
  • Print and poster goodies by artist Jean McEwan – all inspired by the history of Bradford market
  • Play! Family-friendly market trail – to wander is to adventure

  • Spitting Yearns with Claire Kearns – ‘Spitting Yarns is a live sonic performance that combines spoken word with experimental sound, and wool. Made with materials sensitive to Bradford’s heritage, improvised sounds are set against poetry inspired by the people and communities of Bradford’s John Street Market.’

28th April, 12-4pm

  • Commissioned piece of theatre written by Kirsty Taylor, based on stories of Bradford market. ‘We Are Here’  Theatre By Kirsty Taylor – Have you ever seen a city loosing track?
    Dimming lights, on its back? ‘We Are Here’ tells stories of the market and its people. The truth behind the brave faces, the beauty in each persons struggle, and the inspiration in peoples ability to simply ‘get on with it’. A poetical journey of music and words which will encourage us to appreciate the market, and each other.

Getting here

You can catch either the 635 or the 676 from Stand 1 at the Interchange to take them to the market and the 635, 643 or the 644 from either bus stop J1 on John Street or W4 on Westgate to the Interchange.

The service costs 50p each way and all MCards and concessionary passes will be valid on the service.
